Cavities or decay don't have to mean the end of your tooth health. Instead, we use dental fillings to seal the tooth and restore its structure in cases where part of the tooth has been damaged. Dental fillings are made from flexible materials that harden when cured and allow you to use the full function of your tooth.

When are fillings used?

Fillings are most often used in cases of decay or cavities, where part of the tooth above the gum line has been damaged. Other reasons you may need a filling include teeth that are chipped or cracked or teeth that have been worn down from teeth grinding. In addition, you may need a crown to cover the filling if it is larger than usual. This adds an extra layer of protection for the natural tooth.

What are fillings made from?

We provide fillings in various materials to meet your needs and budget. The most common materials used for fillings include:

What is the procedure for receiving fillings?

You can receive your dental filling in one sitting with Dr. Dee. First, she will consult with you about the problem tooth or teeth and assess the area. The next step is removing any decay and damaged tissue and cleaning the tooth to ensure no bacteria are left. Dr. Dee will dry the tooth and then apply the filling material, shaping it to your natural tooth.

If you receive a large filling, you may need a crown. In this case, Dr. Dee will take an impression of the tooth and fit the crown in a follow-up appointment.

How long do fillings last?

The longevity of your filling will depend on the material used and how well you care for your teeth. In most cases, fillings can last for 5-10 years. Continue to brush and floss your teeth twice a day and avoid hard foods that could cause damage to your filling and existing teeth.
